Senior Relationship Manager, Growth (Life Science)

SF, NY, Portland, or remote in US/Canada
Full-time
Mercury

At Mercury, we place our customers at the center of everything we do, treating their ambitions as our own and their challenges as opportunities for mutual growth. Within the Relationship Management (RM) team, this translates into developing and maintaining strong, proactive relationships with our top customers to ensure their evolving needs are met as they grow and scale their business with Mercury.

We are looking for a Senior Relationship Manager to join our growth-stage RM team, dedicated to managing our Life Science customers. As the inaugural individual in this position, you will have the unique chance to shape the trajectory of our life science vertical within Mercury alongside our partnership's life science lead. Your responsibilities will extend beyond managing existing relationships, also engaging in the business development of prospective customers to introduce them to Mercury's ecosystem. This role is not just about maintaining the status quo; it's about actively contributing to the strategic growth and success of our life science sector.

The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset capable of guiding life science companies from their nascent funding phases through to significant milestones such as Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) or acquisitions. This person will have a deep understanding of the unique financial landscapes and regulatory environments that high-growth companies face, coupled with the ability to anticipate and meet their changing needs with financial solutions.

You will:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive account strategies for growth-stage life science customers, addressing risk management, growth opportunities, and strategic planning.
  • Provide expert guidance to clients navigating the transition from grant funding to private capital, including Venture Capital stages from Pre-seed through Series D+ and leading to IPO or acquisition.
  • Serve as a key advisor on complex banking products and financial services, tailoring solutions to meet the intricate needs of Mercury’s most valuable accounts.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver on account strategies, ensuring alignment with client goals and Mercury’s business objectives.
  • Lead client education initiatives, offering insights into industry trends, regulatory changes, and market developments crucial for the growth of life science companies.
  • Attend events and conferences regularly to support the development of existing and prospective relationships.
  • Influence product development and partnership strategies by providing client feedback and market insights at the senior leadership level.
  • Uphold a professional presence and advanced communication skills to effectively manage client expectations and deliver presentations with impact.

You have:

  • A minimum of 8+ years in Relationship Management within the banking, life science, and/or fintech industries
  • Life science industry experience is a plus but not a requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-value client portfolios, with a proven ability to develop and implement strategic account plans.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of interpreting complex financial data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and strong relationships with clients at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong ethical judgment and decision-making abilities, ensuring the protection and prioritization of client interests.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, demonstrating leadership and influencing skills.
